Who We Are
Art Workshop is founded on the concept that art making is a positive experience for all of us. It can be relaxing, healing, fun, thought- provoking, and should be accessible for everyone.
Many of us have "not done art since school". Yet we are dealing with pressures of life, health problems, busyness and stress, without taking time out to relax and restore ourselves.
Art Workshop runs groups where anyone can come to learn how to make art in a supportive friendly environment. We have our own premises, which are light, practical and full of art materials and ideas. "It’s a beautiful experiential space".
We have a wide stock of materials, including acrylic paints, pre -loved canvasses, textiles, air drying clay, beachcombing finds and wool for weaving, knitting and crochet.
Each half term we offer a new art process to learn, then encourage each person to develop their own artwork.
It is crucial for us at AW to be inclusive for all those who experience ongoing health problems, disabilities or for whom life is a challenge (we hope to link with people with Dementia, Parkinson’s, Learning Disabilities, mental health issues). We aim to always treat each person with respect, working together to make achievable and enjoyable artwork.
We are seeking to link with local support groups and statutory agencies, so that everyone who may benefit can be invited to get involved.
AW seeks to become a part of Swanage art scene, including Purbeck Art Weeks, becoming a place where artists might meet, and offering studio space available at an affordable rent. "We hope to make a real artistic buzz at AW."
Art Workshop is part of Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust
